The TRUE LOVE test, step by step
Long before apps, people tested their crush in the back of a notebook. One favourite was the TRUE LOVE test. The true love calculator does the same thing in a second:
- Write both names with the words TRUE LOVE between them, in alphabetical order.
- Count how many times each letter appears, in the order you first meet it.
- Add the first and last numbers, the second and second-to-last, and so on; copy any middle number down.
- Keep folding until the number is 100 or less. That is your true love percentage.
True love vs a simple love score
A plain love calculator by name uses the word LOVES. The true love calculator adds the letters T, R and U, which shifts every count and gives the score a different character. Many people prefer it simply because of its name: if you are asking whether something is true love, the TRUE LOVE test feels like the right question.
What makes love “true”?
Relationship researchers point to a few things that matter far more than letters: respect, trust, kindness during disagreements, shared values and the willingness to grow together. Psychologist Robert Sternberg described love as a triangle of intimacy, passion and commitment — and called the love that has all three “consummate love”. Use your true love calculator score as a playful start, then talk about the real things.
