The duration between two dates, in every unit

Different situations call for different units. A contract runs for “2 years and 3 months”, a project for “14 weeks”, and a countdown might be in hours. The Date to Date Calculator shows them all from one calculation:

  • Years, months and days — the calendar difference, as you would state an age or a term.
  • Total months and total years (decimal).
  • Weeks and days and total days.
  • Weekdays and weekend days in the period.
  • Hours, minutes and seconds — whole days × 24, × 1,440 and × 86,400.

How the years-months-days difference works

The calculator first counts how many whole months fit between the two dates, then counts the leftover days. It is calendar-aware, so month lengths and leap years are handled correctly:

FromToDifference
January 15, 2026March 20, 20262 months 5 days (64 days)
January 31, 2026March 1, 20261 month 1 day (29 days)
February 29, 2024February 28, 202511 months 30 days (365 days)
June 1, 2020June 1, 20266 years (2,191 days)

If the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator still gives the duration and notes that the dates are in reverse order.

Date to date with times

This calculator works in whole days. If your period starts or ends part-way through a day — a flight, a shift or a rental — use the Time and Date Calculator, which includes hours and minutes. For a simple day count, the Days Between Dates calculator is quicker, and the Date Calculator can add or subtract periods from a date.
